ATV trail at Cape D’Or

Champlain named the area “Gold” after the copper.

There were 3 mine shafts built 1900-1905, then they went broke. We looked for the shafts.

A magnificent yellow birch.

My favourite maple – Striped Maple

Mineshaft #1 – this one is quite readily accessible, but it’s not a tourist attraction (it’s on private land). Drop a rock in and it takes a long time to reach the bottom.

We go down a steep gully searching for #2

We find it and Wallace contemplates going down. It seems only about 10 feet deep, apparently it was filled in.

We tie a rope to a tree and Wallace starts down

Boys will be Boys at Any Age! (Video evidence)

Ooops. We couldn’t stop him, he dropped down to the bottom. It was quite a pull to get him out

We set out for an approved tourist activity at Cap D’Or. Beautiful fern. We had some discussion about whether to tell our spouses about our Mine Venture, (We did.)

Many Mt Ash in fruit

Bears love it

The lighthouse at Cape DO’ r. The rips were a rippin’

An October visitor enjoys some rhum
