Background: Appointment of Commissioners of Sewers for the settlement of Advocate Harbour in the Township of Parrsborough on July 28, 1826
For the years 1821 to 1855, the Nova Scotia government granted a certain number of Commissions of various types. The Commissions Book 1821 to 1855 states that Samuel Morris, Malcohm McDonald and John Blinkhorn Gentlemen are appointed Commissioners of Sewers for the settlement of Advocate Harbour in the Township of Parrsboro dated 28 July 1826.
The list of men who were granted the title Commissioners of Sewers can be found on page 126 of the Commissions Book 1821 to 1855 which is archived at PANS (Public Archives of Nova Scotia) RG1, Volume 174 (Microfilm Reel 15283), Record Group # 1. To actually see this document, you would go to the third floor of PANS, turn right after leaving the elevator and walk to what looks like book shelves where you will find microfilm Reels. Search for Reel 15283, take it from the shelf to a digital reader and start looking for page 126. At least that is how I did it in 2003! – Kerr Canning
